Meta ads: the Facebook and Instagram ads guide for 2026
What are Meta ads? Facebook remains one of the most used social platforms in Europe, and Instagram is especially popular among 18 to 35 year olds. Meta's platforms are one of the most effective ways to reach consumers, especially for visual products and services.
Unlike Google Ads, where people are already searching for a solution, Meta ads help create demand: showing your product to people who do not yet know they need it. That makes Meta the ideal channel for building a brand and finding new customers.

Why choose Meta ads?
The main advantages of Meta ads for a growing brand:
Precise targeting : age, location, interests, behavior, job title and much more
Visual format : images and video speak more emotionally than text ads
Retargeting options : show ads to people who already visited your website
Lookalike audiences : find new customers who resemble your best existing ones
Flexible budget : you can start from 5 € a day and scale with results
The structure of Meta ads
Meta ads are built on three levels, and it is important to understand them before creating campaigns:
1. Campaign level: the objective
Here you choose what you want to achieve: awareness, traffic, engagement, leads or sales (conversions). The objective determines how Meta's algorithm optimizes your ads. Always choose the objective closest to the end result you want: if you want sales, choose conversions, not traffic.
2. Ad set level: targeting and budget
Here you define who sees the ad (location, age, gender, interests, behavior) plus the budget and schedule. In smaller markets geographic targeting combined with interests and behavior works well.
3. Ad level: the creative
The ad itself: image or video, headline, primary text and the call-to-action button. For the best results always test several creative variants; the algorithm automatically shows more of what works better.
Meta ads costs in 2026
Meta ads costs depend on many factors: audience size, competition, season and ad quality. Here are indicative numbers for smaller EU markets (our accounts, illustrative):
Costs can differ a lot by sector. For B2B services the CPA is higher, in e-commerce usually lower.
The 5 most common mistakes with Meta ads
1. Targeting too broadly
"Everyone aged 18 to 65 in the country" is not a good audience. The algorithm spends the budget without finding your ideal customer. Start narrow and defined, then widen once you see results.
2. Low-quality creative
Meta is a visual platform. A blurry phone photo or a boring stock image does not catch attention. Invest in quality images and video.
3. No Meta Pixel
Without the Meta Pixel the algorithm cannot learn who your best customers are. Install the pixel BEFORE you advertise.
4. Impatience
Switching an ad off after two days is too early. Meta's algorithm needs time to learn; give it at least 7 days.
5. Choosing the wrong objective
If you want sales, choose Conversions as the objective, not Traffic. The traffic objective brings clicks, but not necessarily buyers.
